#1 "An Account Of English Ants"
Did find yesterday this little book online and recommend it to everybody.
It is written by William Gould in 1747.
I started a topic about it on The Ant Farm http://antfarm.yuku.com/topic/11470/An-Account-Of-English-Ants
Link to the book: http://books.google.com/books?id=fYc-AAAAcAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=An+Account+Of+English+Ants&source=bl&ots=cadG5RmjST&sig=YGivFOQWkDf3fq-Etc0SXlcu3-I&hl=en&ei=GUA7TfaZK9GcOvi-zNQL&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CBUQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q&f=false

Thankyou very much, Teleutotje, that's great.
At the moment I am crossreading a German book written 150 years later, also by a cleric - there does seem to be some history of churchmen being interested in ants. Have you got any off the hand explanation for this phenomena?
Anyway, please do not hesitate to post links like these here - especially as I have little knowledge of the specifically English Ants. You've not got a hint at where to look for anything on Derbyshire Ants, have you?
Even if yearning for "English pastures", you've definitely made me happy.

Hi Teletotje,
Thank you for the link, very interesting to read.
As Ossein has already been mentioned, it also surprise me how many churchmen have dedicated themselves to the study of ants.
I also read a book from a german churchman, named Borgmeier.
Thnk you for the link, and please post more, if you can, i can only join Ossein´s statement, hat would make us very happy!
Kindly regards
Ant

The churchmen were the "academics" in those times. The convents e.g. collected a huge amount of knowledge in their libraries when some of the "modern" sciencefields were not even created. (The biology for example is only about 200 years old ^^ )
They collected knowledge about a lot of stuff, for example natural sciences, music and literature.
Thanks for the interesting link Teleutotje. =)
