I don't know if it was a good decision but I ordered a few days ago a little red book. I've read already a few articles of Radchencko and/or Elmes and I liked those a lot (e.g. their revision of Socially parasitc
Myrmica's of the Palaearctic

http://gap.entclub.org/taxonomists/Elmes/E20066.pdf .). The book covers 142 extant and 5 extinct species of the Old World and counts ca. 800 pages (5 or 6 pages for each species.). I hope it is worth every little dime I'm going to pay for it. Here's the reference:
